This past weekend we went away to South Padre Island with some friends. We all had a really good time. I think everyone's favorite part was running in and out of the waves. Garrett was a big fan of the hotel, I think mainly because we all got to sleep in the same room and it was right next to our friends' room. We were all able to ride together in my friend's mother's Tahoe. Four adults and four kids, with Garrett being the oldest. The ride went really well. At some point we passed out snacks to everyone, but a minute later, Garett started sobbing. Hard.
GARRETT: Kloey gave Carlie a fruit snack!
CANDACE: What's the mater buddy? What's the problem?
I'm trying to think. Is it becase he's jealous and wanted some too? He was crying so hard he could barely breathe. Finally he chokes out his answer: GARRETT: It has strawberries in it! Oh. Oh yeah. Carlie is allergic. I totally forgot. Poor Garrett thought we had just killed his sister. His best friend is severely allergic to milk, beef, and eggs and Garrett knows that allergies are not to be messed with. Carlie's are not severe, but he doesn't understand that.
So all in all, a really sweet moment of hysteria. Pictures for your viewing pleasure:

Garrett and Carlie enjoyed their first circus this week. It was a little late for Carlie, but she still seemed to enjoy it. Here's Garrett walking into the circus on the "Greatest Bridge Ever." 
Funny moment of the night: NATE: Carlie, look at the elephant! CARLIE (glances over, apparently unimpressed) NATE: Carlie! An elephant! CARLIE (A second glance at the elephant right in front of us, still unimpressed) NATE: Carlie! Look at that giant doggie! CARLIE: Wow! Wow! Garrett was unusually enthusiastic, which was a nice change. He is usually pretty stony-faced, even when I know he's enjoying something. 
His favorite part was shooting people out of the canon and the man who jumped through the flaming hoop. 
Carlie's favorite part were the dogs. The actual dogs, not the "giant dogs."

Garrett has been at Bible Soccer Camp this week. Who knew they went together? It was through a Lutheran church, but it was every day this week from 9-11:30am and he got a soccer ball at the end. He had a really good time. They talked about a different Bible story each day and they gave him felt pieces and a felt board, so he's been sharing those stories with us. Luckily there were just a couple of small things they said that I had an issue with, but overall everyone was very friendly.  
Carlie wanted to participate too. So she got all dressed up and grabbed her purse on her way to go play soccer:  But mostly, it's been fun hanging out with just Carlie. We don't get a lot of one on one time, so it was fun hanging out with my girlie. She likes to help me in the kitchen. 
And Garrett has been sleeping very well!

There's just not much else to do outside in a Texas summer! This week looks to be the hottest so far. Although, occasionally the kids do play in the backyard. Garrett has gotten a lot more adventurous since he started taking gymnastics this summer. Check out these three daredevils: 
Don't worry Amy, I saved Caleb just after snapping that picture! Today was super busy. Nate took Garrett to soccer bible camp. I went running at the rec center, went to Walmart, drove the 50 minute round trip to get Garrett, dropped him off at gymnastics, took a shower (thank goodness!), picked up Garrett, picked up free personal pan pizzas (thank you Summer Reading program at the library), went to the summer end picnic, played at the playground, and went home to collapse on the couch. All before nap time. I'm feeling a lot of sympathy for parents of overscheduled kids... if it wasn't their fault to begin with.
