Carlie had her third birthday this weekend! She keeps asking me, "Am I still three?" She was very excited for this birthday. I'd like to tell you it's gone fast, but really, it seems like a really long time ago that it was just us and Garrett, or even that we had a little baby in the family. Amazingly, she still fit in her birthday outfit from last year.
For Carlie's special day, we had kolaches for breakfast, then went to the mall (her choice). We played at the indoor play area, went to the Disney store, and rode on the mall train (haven't they just made malls so much fun for little kids?)
We had snack for lunch, because I have no idea what Carlie really likes to eat, other than fruit, crackers, yogurt, and applesauce. So I filled a muffin tin up with 12 different selections. She ate her blueberries and Teddy Grahams first. Carlie asked to have "her girls" over to share cake and color a cardboard princess castle.
After that, we went to the indoor pool at the YMCA for the first time and that was a lot of fun. Then we had dinner at Phil's Ice House, which is a popular hamburger place in Austin. The burgers and fries were good, but the reason why I chose it for Carlie is because it had a pink slide outside. Unfortunately, it was a little chilly, but Nate ran around with the kids for a little while.
By the time we got home, we realized we had completely forgotten to open presents and watch Carlie's birthday video, so we did those the next day. I'm sure that's the last time Carlie will forget about presents on her birthday.
So, what can I say about Carlie? She loves dancing, ballerinas, tutus, and princesses. She loves Garrett, so she loves anything he loves. She likes to abbreviate everything, like, she calls her jacket "jack" and her shoes "tenna's" (I think she thought they were called tenna shoes, so she calls them "my tenna's." She likes to listen to the Primary kids CD in the car constantly. She likes to sing and make up songs about what is going on. The other day she was singing "If your Mommy and Daddy are ready, it's time to go home!" to the tune of "If You're Happy and you Know It." (We're usually waiting on Nate to finish up business after church). She also loves to cook with me.
The other day I told her to hurry because I needed to go to the bathroom and she said, "Oh, did you get a little peep in your pants?" Haha, no, you're the only one who seems to do that, Carlie, although she hasn't in awhile. And, she's the one who started calling pee "peep."
Lately she has been "making a sad face," which is actually a really cute smiley face, but she does the shifty eye, so it's just really hilarious.
When she notices I'm frustrated, she'll tell me, "It's ok Mom, you're doing your best!" She has a lot of feelings, for better or for worse. I'm not sure what is cuter - her sad puppy dog face or her bright smile. She opens up relatively quickly to most people and then she likes to chat about her favorite things. They tell me at nursery she likes to show off her twirling and tell them about the special bombs on Battleship that Garrett loves.
It really is interesting to see how thoroughly girly she is, despite the fact that I don't think I did anything to particularly encourage her one way or the other. In fact, like I mentioned, she has an appreciation for all the boyish things Garrett is interested in (who is thoroughly boyish!), but her own interests are all so feminine.
She's a sweetheart and we love her!
